Selling Avon, the Highs and Lows We Face

I posted the following in my Beauty Connetions blog, and I felt like it might be a great reminder of the highs and lows we face as Avon Representatives:

Earning income with Avon is a performance based system, just like many direct sales or work from home jobs. The harder you work, the more you sell, the higher percentage you will earn off the sales you make. To maximize you Avon income potential, you should work to make money in 3 different ways. Sell Avon in person- face to face, handing out catalogs and colleting orders. What are the positive and negatives of selling Avon?
There are positives and negatives in all career choices. The most successful Avon representatives do not let the negatives hold them back. In fact, successful Avon representatives will see a negative and use the opportunity to research, reach out to the Avon network of representatives (there are many Avon rep groups on Facebook,) overcome the negative, and use the experience to help others. With all the pros and cons of selling Avon, many representative find success running their own Avon business. Of course I love Avon, and I could go on and on about the positives, but let’s go ahead and start with the negatives- because I would rather end on a good note!

Cons of Selling Avon
  • Negative of selling Avon– this is a tough business and you have to work hard. Many people love to buy Avon products, and Avon offers an array of products for skin care, beauty, fashion, home, children and more. So, selling isn’t necessarily tough, but you do have to work. It takes time and dedication, it takes quality customer service, it takes responding to questions and concerns, it takes learning, and it takes the scary task of presenting yourself to others- the courage to reach out to finding new customers, and introducing yourself to others, and reaching out for help when you need it.  You can be a successful Avon representative from the start, but you have to be willing to keep working and keep growing.
  • Negative of selling Avon- you will see competition. You may live in an area with many local Avon representatives, and you may come across potential customers that already have an Avon representative. Avon representatives should be willing to allow their fellow representatives to grow and prosper, but some competitors are fierce and not always willing to play nice.   • Negative of selling Avon- there are good times and there are bad times. As with most things in life, your work, your family, your friends, your car, your home; It is not all sunshine and roses! Feeling pessimistic, facing hard times, questioning your abilities- these are not things that define you. It is how you react and respond that defines you. All business owners, unsuccessful and successful, face these unfavorable moments. Choosing to power through, choosing to succeed is not easy, but it is mandatory to become a successful Avon representative.

There you have it- some of the most fundamental cons of selling Avon. In many reviews of selling Avon, you many hear someone complain about their leadership, or their upline, or other more specific frustrations, but really, those are difficulties and the reviews they share show the response they have had to those difficulties. Your biggest obstacle is yourself, and how you choose to handle your situations, how you chose to find another route to your success when you feel like you’ve been thrown a “bad” curve ball.




Pros of Selling Avon
Like I said, I love selling Avon, and I could list positives on and on. I focused on the basics of the cons, so I will focus on the basic of the pros as well.
  • Positive of selling Avon- Avon offers a low start-up cost. The cost to start your Avon business is only $15! Plus, with your $15 investment, you will receive a free starter kit with products, tools and training. Many direct sales companies have large start up costs and/or require you to purchase either a starter kit. With Avon, you get your free starter kit, and you can make the choice to upgrade to a larger starter kit.
  • Positive of selling Avon- There is a large community of Avon representatives on social media. Most of these groups are positive and motivating, and want to help you reach your dreams! When you do reach out, you will be surprised at the support you can find. Regardless of your upline, your local district manager, your local Avon team; there is an Avon family out there, and they are happy to include you. Just reach out! Do not be afraid to reach out to the most successful Avon representatives you hear or read about! I feel so fortunate to have made connections to millionaire Avon representatives, and you can too!
  • Positive of selling Avon- The Avon earnings chart! When you sell Avon, you will earn 0-50% commissions on each order. For example, maybe you have a low selling campaign (a campaign lasts for 2 weeks) and you only earn 30% for that campaign. The very next campaign, you push harder, sell more, and earn a higher commission. You could jump your earnings from 30% up to 50% in just two weeks!
  • Positive of selling Avon- The President’s Recognition Club! This club has several rewards for attaining, but my favorite reward? Once you reach the sales level to join, you begin to earn a guaranteed 40% on all your sales! (Exception, fixed earning items, items sold by, but not produced by Avon.) The sales level to join this club is $10,000 in award sales. Once you reach that, you will have your commission guaranteed from the time you reach the goal, and ALL of the following sales year! Plus, once you have reached that level, it is easy to attain because you have learned to sell at that level.
